Tenement Flat Rewires in Edinburgh

Edinburgh has thousands of stone tenement flats in places like Leith, Gorgie, Dalry, Marchmont and Bruntsfield. Many still have old wiring, too few sockets and a tight fuse box in a hall cupboard. Some have cables that were added bit by bit over the years. If your sockets feel warm, your fuses keep blowing or the cables are rubber or fabric, the flat is likely due a rewire.

We plan the cable routes with you room by room. Tenements have high ceilings, lath and plaster walls and fine cornices, so we cut neatly and make good after. We keep the mess inside your flat and keep the common stair clear for your neighbours. The whole flat is tested when we finish. Most two-bed tenement rewires in Edinburgh cost between £3,000 and £5,000. We see the flat first, then give you one fixed price in writing.

Your questions, answered

Do I need my neighbours' say so to rewire my flat?

Not for work inside your own flat. If the job touches anything shared, like the supply in the stair, we tell you first so you can speak to the other owners.

How long does a tenement flat rewire take?

Most one or two bed flats take about a week. Bigger flats with more rooms take longer. You get a clear plan before we start.

Can I stay in the flat during the rewire?

Often, yes. We work room by room and try to have the power back on at night. In a small flat it can be quicker if you stay elsewhere for a few days. We will tell you honestly.
